*WILD SALMON CO-OP*

PRESENTING: "The good stuff"  since 2002

     WILD ALASKAN
SOCKEYE SALMON & HALIBUT CHEEKS

THIS PREMIUM HEALTH FOOD IS: MSC CERTIFIED SALMON AND HALIBUT FROM SUSTAINABLE FISHERIES.
––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––
Chris White, 34-year Alaskan commercial fisherman, has glazed, vacuum-packed, skinless/boneless, flash-frozen, ready to cook wild sockeye fillets, sockeye portions, halibut cheeks, and hot and cold smoked sockeye at
fisherman to market prices!
FACT: Flash-frozen fish is as excellent as one-day fresh fish—and will last all year!
-------------------------------------------------------
THE WHY AND WHAT:

Wild salmon is my passion because of its taste and health benefits.  My intention is to help educate and make this amazing food available to more people at the lowest possible prices.  The salmon comes from the only all-refrigerated fleet in Bristol Bay and captained by fishermen who share the vision of the highest attainable quality.
There are five species of wild salmon that return to Alaska from the deep North Pacific ocean each year.  Along with King (Chinook) salmon, Sockeye (Red) are the best tasting salmon with the most omega-3 oil.  It is the true Prince.

2009 UPDATES:
• HEALTH NEWS: A recently published three decade study of 30,000 people showed that the omega-3 they received from eating fish (sockeye is one of the best sources of omega-3 oil) substantially reduced their risk of heart disease and related problems.  It is routinely prescribed to patients in Europe.  Additionally, the FDA reported that omega-3, selenium, and other minerals in fish could increase a child’s IQ by three points!

• THE CO-OP:  Some have asked how it works.  The group of fishermen I fish with are in a cooperative relationship with each other in helping  catch fish and maintain the best possible quality to the tender (a larger refrigerated vessel) that takes the fish to the plant for processing.  I sell all my fish from my boat (F/V Vulcan) and buy back the fish in Seattle in the final processed and vacuum-packed form.  The fish I buy could be from any of the equally quality conscious boats.

2009 IMPROVEMENTS: 1) This season over 85% of the fish were bled on the boats.  The excellent quality has gotten even better!  2) There were a few vacuum packing issues at the plant last year; that will not happen again.

 • THE MARKET: It was a surprisingly bountiful run in Bristol Bay this year.  Over 30-million sockeye were caught!  Other areas of Alaska and Canada had less than expected runs.  The result is that—despite the current economic challenges--world demand remains strong and, disappointingly, my cost went up $.25.  Still, compared with the current $8.00/lb @ Costco and $9.00/lb here in town, I’m happy to keep the cost just $.25 above last year.
---------------------------------------------------
